pig, chicken, horse, sheep...
One of my favorite memories, is one of the whole family playing hide and seek. It was night-time, and we played outside, adults and kids.
I climbed on my parent's roof to hide..snuggled up next to the chimney, giddy with the fresh night air and the moon's light. My brother hid so well, no one could find him. For years, he would not reveal his hiding place!
When I am 80, I will still be playing hide and seek, ya know, its a way of life.
Now that I have children, we play the game almost everyday. To quell the monotony of everyday, and to incorporate it to learning, I have added a twist to the traditional count to 20 hide and seek.
For a homeschooling twist, we count by:
-five's
-ten's
-backwards, 20 to 1
-A B C's
-spelling example: spell your name, city, state,.....
-days of the week
-months of the year
-animals example: mammals, animals with fur, animals that hop,
farm animals...
We also play hide and seek with their toys.
Recently, I hid their animals around the house, and sent the kids on a safari to find the animals. Clues describing the animals added to the fun of the hunt. example: "The animal you're looking for eats leaves and has the longest neck of any animal..."
Brainstorming here...Why not hide words? Write words on index cards, hide and find them, and then, put the words in proper sentence order. The sentence can be a clue to an upcoming event. or simply, "i love you". Ya know, that idea seems like a stretch, even for me, but I think with fun, silly sentences, it could be enjoyable.
Do you have any games with "twists"? If so, please share. I would love to learn about them! ![]()
well, its time to close shop and go play!
melidna oops. melidna, shoot. melinda...whew!!

Birthday idea... Hide treasure hunt clues in different places. First clue tells you clues to find the next clue and so on until the last clue tells you where your birthday gift is. It's great for kids that can read, but if they can't read yet you just can read it to them. Include in each clue what color paper the next clue is on or put numers or letters on the clue card or even photos of objects for younger ones just learning to talk well.
