"Come On Baby Light My" Oven

Unless I am cooking something that involves potential stinging splatter, like bacon, I encourage my kids to be in the kitchen when I prepare foods. They can help mix, crack an egg, or simply, observe--"watch so you can learn" I frequently say.
When I preheat the oven, I click on it's light. The glow communicates, "HANDS OFF! Don't touch!" This way, my children may watch as the bread rises, the cookies' brown and the cheese melts, from a safe distance. Even though I verbally warn them anyways, this visual reminder reinforces the safety rule. The light stays on after the oven is off, until the door is cool to the touch, because although I have "eyes in the back of my head", I think they need glasses, too!
Sometimes I wish I wasn't so health conscience. Like just one week, I could convince myself that bacon every morning is perfectly acceptable, because oh baby, I love ME some bacon!!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm bacon! If it makes you feel better, my Great Grandma ate bacon several times a week and had a little snort of Franklin County's finest every night. She lived to be 100! Of course if I did that I'd be on a transplant waiting list by now.
I think I'll start turning the light on too. Good learning experience.

This is such a great idea. The kids love to see what's in the oven. I like the creativity of it- and it's practical. Thanks!
