Here A Truck, There A Truck

...everywhere a truck-truck!!!   Fire engines, rescue squad vehicles, construction and city maintenance trucks, big rigs, military trucks and more.  EVERYWHERE trucks.

The county sponsored "Touch A Truck Day"  last weekend.  I was determined to go, since we heard about it too late last year.  Doesn't matter that it just happened to be on the same day as the Insect Safari!  Somehow, we were going to make it happen!!  So, after the Safari and a relaxing lunch at home (if you kindly overlook the mashed potatoes that coated the kitchen), we packed back up, and brought a friend along, too.

We don't go anywhere without water and snacks..or try not to at least.  This time we didn't forget, thank goodness,  because it was hot and humid with no shade.  My kids and friend were troopers despite the intense heat.  Its rather overwhelming to see so many people, so many large vehicles, so many distractions all at one.  Or maybe I'm the one overwhelmed?

The vehicles were shiny and clean, very welcoming.  Hubby and I climbed in a few times to help the kids, because the vehicles were so high off the ground.  Gorgeous trucks.  Wow!!  I wanted to touch everything!!And play with the buttons and levers.  I managed to keep my head, and kept my eyes on the kid's enjoyment.  Well, for the most part.

We approached the fire engines and friendly firemen, and waited in line for our kids' turn.  After the last kid hopped down, I turned to the folks behind me, pleading, "Do y'all mind if I take a turn, too?!"  The ladies laughed, assuring me it was okay.  As I climbed in that massive fire truck I looked around me; so much room, so much gear, so many buttons I shouldn't push but wanted to ever so badly!!

I was good though, I didn't touch a thing, unless you count the steering wheel!!  As I glanced around the rig, giggling like a little girl, the folks waiting in line said, "Maybe you should get a job with them?  You seem to like it so much."  My husband quickly responded, "Oh please, don't give her any ideas!"

After a few minutes, I thanked everyone for letting me take a turn and reluctantly got out of the fire truck, trying to regain my senses.  Amazingly I didn't fall trying to get out!   A few more feet up and I may have needed a parachute to get down!

So, the firemen were chuckling at me, but it kinda felt nice.  It was a good kinda chuckle.  Besides, I wouldn't have missed that for the world!  Vroooooooom

Oh yeah, the kids had fun, too!  lol

I wanted to be a fireman and a Mommy, as a child.  Now, as a Mom, I put out many fires, just none with actual flames!!

p.s. yeah, I wear that shirt entirely too much, and I didn't strike a flattering pose, but I needed proof!!

p.s.s.s.  my feet couldn't touch the floor or anything else, but air!!

It's great that you guys got to see those trucks. I'm thankful that the police and fire depts show those off. It gets kids interested and involved in such things. During fireworks displays for the 4th there are usually firetrucks there on hand. just in case. And they will usually let your little ones take a little tour through the truck. B and A love these tours. It's so educational and with real life vehicles!

the touch a truck event is such a brilliant idea..seems like a very do-able thing for most communties..brings folks out to a free event, and folks spends money locally.
