Clogging, Nothing to Dance About

Something tells me I shouldn't really admit this.  I mean, I have been a homemaker for over 12 years and have been cooking even longer.  You see, sometimes I'd see a can of bacon grease set on the counter of someone's home or on tv show, or mentioned in a book and my stomach would lurch.  Yes, I love bacon.  I think bacon scented air fresheners just may be the next big thing, but the idea of holding on to the grease just eww-ed me out!

So, instead of following what apparently is common knowledge, I disposed of the grease one of two ways;  wait until its cooled and scooped and toss it into the trashcan or pour it down the sink with rushing, steaming hot water following after it.  When I am being impatient and not letting the gunk cool so I could toss, I often did the hot water "trick".  And didn't think twice.

Well, I should have grown a brain cell or two and quit wasting it on facebook's farmtown, and realized that the grease I just poured down the sink is going to cool, too--just further down the pipes!

My husband shared a conversation with me that I missed on "Touch A Truck Day".  A water works employee told him, very often, when pipes jam up, etc.. household grease is the culprit.  And as the worker described, massive amounts of solidified grease just camping out in the pipes, wrecks havoc on shared pipes.  Eww Ewww Double Ewwww.

So, I guess I will either deal with the whole can of grease or be patient and wait for the grease to cool, so I may scrape it out and dump it into the trash.

Eww.

thank you for letting me tell you something you probably already knew!!  haha

P.S.
farmtown and farmville on facebook are fun and I like it.  I don't think my interest requires a 12 step program.  yet.  And just to be certain, I am introducing it to my learning math children, so they may play and I may continue to live vicariously through their smiles and enjoyment!

When we first moved to 'town' we got notices from the city of what NOT to pour down the drain. Bacon fat was #1. To be honest, a lot of the time I sneak it to my neighbor's skinny dog.

Yup, it's gross! I ended up just keeping an old yogurt container in the freezer, and adding grease to that, then garbage day.. out it goes!
