Birthday Bash

See, this Lady?  This Lady that is quiet as a whisper and thin as a butterfly's wing?  Well, this Lady is my Mom.  She is strong, and kind, and loving.  She taught me to 'walk in another's shoes', how to make one amazing rum-filled Log Cake for Christmas (that the whole family 'fights' over) ,and most importantly, how to be a great Mom.  I try to be like her in many ways.  I even try to read like her, too.

When I was little, just hearing my mom's voice as she read, was a comforting, magical embrace.  I try to sound like her when I read aloud to my children, and secretly hope my children feel "safe", too.

She filled my childhood with carefully chosen words of support, love, and guidance  Through her words and actions, she taught my siblings and I, how and why to think beyond oneself.  She is the Mom every kid wants and every kid needs.

I remember her going to many soccer games, more accurately ALL of my games, supporting and cheering me on.  One of my teammates used to call her "Mom", too,  stating she always came to the games and her Mom rarely did.  I'm ashamed to admit, I really didn't like someone else calling MY Mom, Mom because well, I guess I was greedy.  After all, she is MY MOM!!  lol

Yes, I did understand why and was even proud of my Mom being liked as she was, and still is.  My kind-hearted Mom, is a Mommy, period.  Be it to her children, a child of no relation or the child lost and wandering in the store.

Well, Supermom's Birthday is today.  A few days ago, as a special treat, my sister and her youngest daughter, and my girl and I, took Mom out to dinner.  We haven't had a Just the Girls Day in a long time, so those of us that were able to go, were absolutely thrilled to be doing so!  So, after a few hours of hanging here and sharing stories on everything from dolls to forest fires to cuddly warm-hearted family stuff, off we went to talk some more--only with big plates of food!  lol

We had a great time.  Miss Sophia was so excited to join-in on her first Girl's Day, for such a special occasion.  We laughed, we ate, we simply enjoyed our time together.  My Mom is amazing, so we celebrated.  But, really, there isn't enough confetti, dessert, or waiter-sung songs in the world, to truly express the love and admiration I have for this Lady.  This Lady that eats less than a humming bird, but loves with the heart of a lion-- wise, strong, devoted, and loyal.

my Mom's favorite daughter, oh wait, I can't say that, my sister is gonna read this...okay, let me try it another way.

my Mom's favorite youngest daughter,

Melinda

P.S.  I love you, Mom.  Happy Birthday

P.S.S.  just for the record, my Mom had a great time!  Her smile tends to disappear, its afraid of the camera dontcha know .

I love the picture of all of you girls. What a wonderful idea & tribute to your mom. I remember her soft-spoken-ness, and kindness. Gifts she's given you tenfold. And it is sweet to share, but I know what you mean. I don't especially like sharing MY mom either! As for the "favorite daughter" issue. You both are! Just ask her!
Happy Birthday to Jean & Melinda's Favorite MOM.
