Fishy Love

For Valentine's Day I made cards for my children.  A butterfly for Sophia and a fish for Ethan.

Ethan is all about fish these days.  My little guy doesn't do anything half way.  So, when I say he is all about fish, he is all fish, all day.  He dreams about fishing, cooking fish, owning an aquarium, and on and on.

I am thankful Ethan is such an enthusiastic, eager, learner.  He wants to know as much as possible, all day long.  It can be difficult to keep up with him!  No joke.

He was thrilled with the heart fish I made him and a bit sad that he hadn't thought to make me a Valentine. So, early next morning he surprised me with:

ain't it cute?  i wuv it, i do, i do!!

So, as we learn, I will share links I've found so you may get fishy with us

You know, I remember watching my Dad gut a fish when I was little.  As gross as it was, I loved it, because I was seeing something I'd never seen before and getting Daddy-Time!  It is one of my favorite memories of us together;  the warm Carolina sun, the shiny scales of the fish, the weirdness of the cold staring eyes, and the taste of dinner!  Yeah, I was a tomboy, but ya probably already figured that one out!

I think there are photos of you, Dad and fish. Our Mom was like Ewww, gross. But you? All into it. I seem to recall you sitting in the garage at Apollo watching such....in a lawn chair? I was not a tom-boy, but when the boys wanted to go rattlesnake skin hunting (Utah? Ca?), I couldn't back down Just Because I Was a Girl. Scared. Yup. Gonna let them know it. Nope. Unless it was a King Kong scareaton and I had to watch from behind the couch sometimes!

i remember holding the fish that was nearly as big as my 5 year old self.
i think it was a salmon? yum.

funny how different we are in some ways, huh? and sophia is very girly, like her aunt

i don't know if i'd go hunt for snakes though...then or now.

I was the oldest, I couldn't let my brothers always be braver than me, and at least it was skins and not the whole snake! And Elizabeth is a lot like you, interesting. And yes, you may laugh. I still am not crazy about scary movies, mysteries, but not the real scary stuff!....and I don't hide behind the couch anymore, just my hands! Beth thinks its funny to see how many times I jump and/or yelp when I watch a scary movie with her (you know being a good Mom). And like her uncles before her, she laughs! Oh and now her Aunt.

B and a have been amazed with puffer fish lately. Do a google image search and you'll get some really cool pics. Those things can get HUGE! Some have spikes, some don't, they're cool.

Your Valentines' are just beautiful. I especially adore the fish--the heart fins are the icing on the cake. Good luck with all your fish learning.
